Policies & permissions

A place on the map means something specific.

A host listing and a neighbor’s decoration sighting are different kinds of contribution. Neither makes someone’s home open to the public.

When you list a place

Only list a place you are entitled to represent. Confirm the public name, address, unit, description, visiting details and photos you choose to publish. For a shared place or business, arrange the necessary permission from the person responsible for it. Joining the Commons alone does not publish a place.

A listing is not an invitation indoors

A listing does not grant access to a building, yard, driveway or other private area. Hosts set their visiting details. Visitors should stay on public paths unless a host has clearly invited them into a specific area. Hosts can change availability or stop participating.

Neighbor-reported sightings

A BixbyBoo sighting reports visible decorations at a street address or cross streets. It does not establish that the resident is a member, registered the place, approved the report or invited visitors onto the property. Report what is visible from a public place. Do not trespass or publish private details about residents.

Correcting or removing a place

Hosts can use the available listing controls. Residents and other affected people can Contact the Commons about an inaccurate or unwanted report. Include the page or location and explain your relationship to it; a steward may need to verify the request. A concern should be reviewed without treating a public sighting as proof of host permission.

What the map can promise

Host-reported features, treat availability, accessibility details and visiting hours can change. Visiting & map information explains how to use these details with care.
